Dave Allen: A Journey Through Life and Death

The show opens on the day of Dave’s death; he is arrived at St Peter’s waiting room. We are then taken on a romp through anecdotes and scenes from Dave’s life.

Born David O’Mahoney in 1936 in Dublin, he was teased as a child for having an English mother and he lost his father at just 12 years old. His father was the managing editor of the Irish Times and Dave initially followed in his father’s footsteps; only later deciding that the world of entertainment was where he wanted to be, changing his name to Allen, on the advice of his agent.

We’re taken on a comedic journey through Dave Allen’s stage career, with stand-up and even a ghost story, before we cross over to Australia where he was ‘the James Bond of comedy’, as we hear about his marriage to his first wife, Judith Stott; we also get a humorous glimpse of his 4-year-old atheist self’s look on religion and the witty grumblings of the later grumpy old man.

We may even find out the real reason behind Dave’s missing finger!!

In Dave Allen’s typical relaxed and intimate style, Kieran Cunningham keeps the audience thoroughly engaged throughout, with sentimental moments and times of uproarious laughter. It really is a night not to be missed.
