Earwig

Earwig

Marigold’s research into beetles is unparalleled but as a deaf woman in 1927, her
work is ignored. Earwig combines the weird, wonderful world of entomology with
Marigold’s fight to be heard amidst flappers, jazz and an overbearing husband.

Funny, fast-paced new writing from deaf actor and producer, Laura Crow,
interweaving illustrated, silent movie projections and BSL; Earwig explores what it
meant to be deaf in the early 20th century and attitudes towards British Sign
Language against the art deco decadence of the inter-war years.

WINNER Off West End Award for Best Show of the Edinburgh Fringe 2022
“A deaf elegy for the hearing world, a clever self-validating work dissects and rejects
the ableism of ‘trying to fix’ deaf people…in a satisfying and authentic 1920’s
domestic drama” – Neurodiverse Review

“A joyous and emotional piece of theatre , not to be missed” – Reviewer No 9
